Walatowa Head Start
Purpose of Head Start:
The Head Start Program is concerned with the whole child and his/her development. Our goal is to help children achieve a positive self-concept. We want to foster a love of learning that will benefit their academic journey throughout their lifetime. You will find that our Head Start Program is dedicated to helping each child develop physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually. There are seven content areas within the Head Start Program that will assist with the development of an individual child. The seven content areas are: Education, Health, Disabilities, Mental Wellness, Nutrition, Family Services, and Transportation. We believe children learn by doing, by listening, and from one another. Therefore, our program allows children to have a great deal of freedom to explore their environment and to interact with a variety of carefully selected materials. Head Start is an early childhood development program with a planned curriculum. Parents are encouraged to visit at any time.
Mission Statement
The Walatowa Head Start program’s vision is for children to make the successful transition from home to kindergarten when the Head Start years are spent in a culturally appropriate environment.
Children will receive an education, which affords each individual the ability to function in two worlds, contemporary and traditional.
