Jemez SPARK Program
The Jemez SPARK program is an Early Childhood transition program for children 4-6 years of age. Our program is designed to increase family engagement and develop a seamless transition into Kindergarten using the Towa language. Our program currently serves 135 students from five local schools within our community.
The Jemez SPARK Program is the result of a collaborative effort with the New Mexico Community Foundation, funded & supported by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
Four key principles:
▪ Strong partnerships among families, providers, community organizations and schools
▪ Quality is a critical element of a child’s early learning, from birth through the early
years of school.
▪ Parents and families at home and working with early-care providers are critical to
ensuring that children succeed in school.
▪ School leaders and teachers, working with the community’s support can create
smooth transitions from early-learning settings.
SPARK focuses & targets three SPARK brings local schools within
main areas: the community together:
Family Engagement - Walatowa Head Start
Professional Development - Jemez Valley Pre-K & Kindergarten
Best Practice in Early Childhood - Jemez Day School
- San Diego Riverside Charter School
With increased family involvement, increased knowledge & coordination opportunities provided to our teaching staff; our goal is to have every child feel comfortable and confident as they enter their new elementary school environment which supports and speaks their home language, Towa.
