Student Outreach Services
The program reaches out to Jemez students, by providing them with educational resources to ensure academic achievement and success. Students from elementary through high school are served through the student services program.
Services Provided
· Conduct one-on-one student surveys that detail, post-secondary plans, interest in summer
and/or academic enrichment programs, employment or job skills training
· A successful Tutoring program that offers tutorial services afterschool, at school & at home
· Experiential Learning opportunities are made available to students:
- through coordinated efforts with local schools via afterschool & out of school programming
- supported by Jemez Ed Department and student/ parent fund raising efforts
Monthly Visits are conducted at Jemez Valley High School, Walatowa High Charter School
and Santa Fe Indian School
· Development of Student Profiles and Next Step Plans for college/ career transitions
· Student Database to track student progress, student programming and student achievement
· Dual Credit classes offered on site at the Education Center focusing on College Success
· Programs and Services developed to increase Parental Involvement in all schools
Statistics:
- Database contains over 200 students: captures their educational goals, educational attainment
and personal information for easier tracking.
- Provide services to an average of 150 high school students during monthly visits
- On average 50 students, K-12 receive tutoring per day
- 17 students are enrolled in the first Dual Credit Course offered through the department
- 50 students in a given summer take advantage of Experimental Learning opportunities offered
Recommendations:
- Increase Title VII-Indian Education and Title VIII Impact Aid funding with greater flexibility to support
local and tribal control
- Develop community based after school and out of school programs targeted at Native students
- Develop and fund parent education and support programs
- Establish a system that supports student information and data sharing among tribes & Ed agencies
