Governor's Office

The Pueblo of Jemez is an independent sovereign nation with an independent government and tribal court system. Our secular Tribal Government includes the Tribal Council, the Governor, two Lt. Governors, two fiscales, and a sheriff. These officials are appointed every year to carry out all secular duties and responsibilites of the tribal government.

The Governor convenes Tribal Council meetings and executes the decisions of the Tribal Council. The Second Lieutenant also acts as the Governor of the Pecos culture that merge with their Towa speaking relatives in the 1800s. The Governor becomes a member of the Tribal Council for life after his term.

The current officials are Paul S. Chinana, Governor; Joshua Madalena, First Lieutenant Governor; and Delbert A. Tafoya, Second Lieutenant Governor.
